Full pressure at the top: Ace Pistol Grip nozzle stream – Ace Fire Defense

A pump is only half the story. What matters is what comes out of the nozzle where you're standing.

At Lake Sherwood, our Honda WH20 sat 40 feet below the house at the water's edge. This is what the stream looked like at the top of the hill, through Ace Fire Defense hose and our Pistol Grip nozzle:

Why Reach Matters

In a wind-driven wildfire, embers fly ahead of the fire and land on and around your home. They settle in gutters, against vents, under decks, in wood piles and in dry brush, and each one can start a spot fire. The task at hand is fighting those embers and knocking down spot fires the moment they start.

That takes reach. A garden hose gives you a few feet of weak spray. A real fire pump with a professional nozzle lets you hit a spot fire across the yard or up at the roofline without walking into smoke and heat to get there.

One thing we don't recommend: soaking your roof or flower beds ahead of time. In an ember-driven firestorm with dry Santa Ana winds, that water dries up almost immediately. Save your water and energy for the embers and spot fires themselves.

Fog or Stream?

The Ace Fire Defense Professional 1.5" NH Fire Hose Nozzle, our Pistol Grip, adjusts on the fly:

  • Straight stream for reach. Use it to hit a spot fire at a distance, up at the gutters, or across the yard.
  • Fog pattern for close-in work. A wide spray covers more area at short range and helps protect you from radiant heat.
  • Adjustable flow so you can control how much water you use, which matters when your supply is a pool or a tank.

The pistol grip gives you a firm, controlled hold, and you can shut the water off instantly without going back to the pump.
