Your pool holds thousands of gallons of water. With a Honda WH20 high-pressure pump, it becomes your own fire hydrant.

When embers are flying, hydrant pressure can drop and fire engines may not reach your street. A pool or lake pump gives you water you control, right where you need it.

I'm Sherwin "Ace" Ross, founder of Ace Fire Defense, LAFD CERT-trained and a member of Tony Robbins' Ultimate Fire Team. In this video, filmed at a home in Beverly Hills, I walk you through a complete Honda WH20 setup, step by step, the same way I install it for our customers.

What the video covers

1. Pick the right spot

Set the pump on stable ground as close to the water as you can. The shorter the suction run, the easier the pump primes and the harder it works for you.

2. Connect the suction side and keep it airtight

Attach the suction hose and steel filter and make every connection tight. An air leak on the suction side is the most common reason a pump won't prime.

3. Add the brass adapter to the discharge

A brass adapter (NPT to 1.5" NH/NST) on the discharge side lets the pump connect to standard fire hose threads.

4. Hook up fire hose and nozzle

Connect Ace Fire Defense 1.5" fire hose and the Pistol Grip Nozzle, and you have a working attack line from your own water supply.

5. Oil, gas, prime and start

Add oil and fresh gas, prime the pump, and start it, following your Honda owner's manual.

6. Fog and stream to fight embers

Use a wide fog pattern to wet down your roof, gutters and landscaping, and a straight stream for reach. Knock down embers the moment they land.

7. Keep it ready

Store the pump properly, keep fresh fuel on hand, and practice before fire season so you're not learning in an emergency.
